Designed with the comfort of patients and needs of staff in mind, the birth center offers many services and amenities:
The Obstetrics and Gynecology clinic is connected to the birth center. In the event of an emergency, women can be transported immediately to the hospital, saving valuable time.
Two private labor and delivery rooms offer a homelike atmosphere that combines the highest level of comfort with advanced obstetrical equipment and technology. Each labor room has a whirlpool spa, so you can benefit from a soothing bath during labor. There is plenty of space for family members who wish to be with you during labor and delivery.
Five large, private patient rooms provide plenty of space for you and your visitors. At mealtime, you and your support person can order room service meals from the inpatient menu. Each postpartum room has a whirlpool spa, so you can relax after your baby is born.
Level 2 Special Care Nursery
The Special Care Nursery is on-site in Mankato. When needed, babies who need a higher level of care can receive it here from highly trained, experienced nurses. Babies born at Mayo Clinic Health System locations in Fairmont and New Prague needing Level 2 care are transferred to this nursery for a seamless transition of care.
Family waiting room
The family waiting room is equipped with the many comforts of home. It allows family and friends who are not in the room with you during labor a special place to wait for the arrival of the new baby. It also provides a welcome place for dads, children, grandparents and other visitors to sit if you need to take a break or rest.
To provide the safest environment for your new bundle of joy, the birth center is a locked unit. Upon arrival to the unit, visitors should push the button to be granted access.
The birth center is equipped with the Hugs & Kisses infant security system. Each infant wears a comfortable tag attached by a soft tamper-proof strap around his or her ankle. You wear a device on your wrist. When the tag and device are combined, they automatically confirm that the correct baby is with the correct mother. This system also allows staff to know where each baby is at all times.
A nourishment center with snacks, as well as a refrigerator and microwave, is available for you.
Lactation and breastfeeding resource room
Lactation counselors are available to provide support and assist with breastfeeding needs during your stay. The lactation counselors are also available on an outpatient basis after you go home.
