    Laser-assisted cataract surgery

A cataract is when the clear lens of an eye becomes clouded. Age-related cataracts are considered a normal part of aging. Cataracts can make it more difficult to read, drive a car or see the expression on a friend’s face.

Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery provides precise and bladeless corneal incisions, reducing possible flap complications associated with traditional cataract surgery, as well as a more reliable result from the procedure.

According to ophthalmologist Cecil Berlie, M.D., the new laser technology is customized for each patient, makes removal of the old lens easier and lessens the likelihood glasses will be needed after the procedure. “Even if someone needs eye surgery, it doesn’t mean they want to be dependent on their glasses forever,” says Dr. Berlie. “This procedure offers another option, and when patients have options, patients’ their overall satisfaction is greater.”
