Designed with the comfort of patients and needs of staff in mind, the birth center offers many services and amenities:
Clinic connection The Obstetrics and Gynecology clinic is connected to the birth center. In the event of an emergency, women can be transported immediately to the hospital, saving valuable time.
Labor, delivery and recovery rooms Six private labor, delivery and recovery rooms offer a homelike atmosphere that combines the highest level of comfort with advanced obstetrical equipment and technology. After delivery, you will be moved to one of the nine postpartum rooms. At mealtime, you and your support person can order room service meals from the inpatient menu to be delivered to your room.
Level 2 Special Care Nursery The Special Care Nursery is on-site in Mankato. When needed, babies who need a higher level of care can receive it here from highly trained, experienced nurses. Babies born at Mayo Clinic Health System locations in Fairmont and New Prague needing Level 2 care are transferred to this nursery for a seamless transition of care.
Cesarean section birth operating and recovery room The C-section delivery suite is on the same wing as labor and delivery rooms. If an emergency arises, the team is ready to care for you.
Family waiting room The family waiting room is equipped with many comforts of home. It allows family and friends who are not in the room with you during labor a special place to wait for the arrival of the new baby. It also provides a welcome place for dads, children, grandparents and other visitors to sit if you need to take a break or rest.
Security To provide the safest environment for your new bundle of joy, the birth center is a locked unit. Upon arrival to the unit, all visitors will need to check in at the nurses desk to be granted access down the appropriate wing. All patient wings are locked.
The birth center is equipped with the Hugs & Kisses infant security system. Each infant wears a comfortable tag attached by a soft tamper-proof strap around his or her ankle. You wear a device on your wrist. When the tag and device are combined, they automatically confirm that the correct baby is with the correct mother. This system also allows staff to know where each baby is at all times.
Nourishment center A nourishment center with snacks, as well as a refrigerator and microwave, is available for you.
Lactation and breastfeeding resources Lactation counselors are available to provide support and assist with breastfeeding needs during your stay. The lactation counselors are also available on an outpatient basis after you go home.
