    Community Engagement

A healthy community requires more than access to medical services. In fact, clinical care accounts for only about 20 percent of an individual's overall health and quality of life. Our environment, health behaviors, and social and economic factors all impact our wellbeing. That's why our commitment to the health of our patients, co-workers, families and neighbors extends beyond the walls of our facilities. Through our community engagement initiatives, we work to ensure that our region remains a great place to live, work, learn, raise families and be healthy.

Specific components of our community engagement programs include:

    Community Health Improvement

    • We collaborate with community partners to conduct a triennial Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA). Based on the findings of the CHNA, we formulate a community health improvement plan to address priority needs. View the CHNA reports for our La Crosse and Sparta hospitals.

    Community Partnerships

    • We work with other nonprofits and government agencies to address community needs. Collaboration allows us to maximize resources and achieve better outcomes for the benefit of the community.

    Leadership and Staff Engagement

    • Mayo Clinic Health System leaders and staff serve on more than 70 boards of directors across our service area. Numerous staff serve the community as members of work groups, task forces and service clubs. Additionally, leaders and staff participate in dozens of community events, discussions, educational presentations and volunteer opportunities each year.

    Funding and In-kind Support

    • In addition to the involvement of our leaders and staff in area organizations, Mayo Clinic Health System actively engages with many organizations, programs, events and initiatives with funding and in-kind support. Priority is given to requests that align with the CHNA or promote health and well-being, but a wide array of requests is considered each year. We welcome requests from all areas of our region where Mayo Clinic Health System has a presence.

    Community Education

    • We share the expertise of Mayo Clinic in our local communities through presentations and speaking engagements, Hometown Health blog, social media and news stories. We also provide brochures and other printed materials addressing a variety of health topics.
    • If you'd like an expert from our organization at your next health event, please complete the appropriate request below. We ask that you submit your request at least six weeks in advance.
