    Clinical Pastoral Education Program

The Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Program at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, provides valuable experience and training in spiritual care. Our 12-month CPE Residency provides three units of ACPE-accredited clinical pastoral education, each approximately 13 weeks long, followed by a month of integration time for reflection and application of learning. This intensive program offers a unique blend of didactic learning and hands-on clinical experience within a supportive and collaborative environment.

    Program highlights

Each CPE unit provides at least 100 hours of didactic/group process time coupled with 300 hours of clinical work with patients, families and staff fulfilling all the necessary accreditation standards for a unit of ACPE CPE. The unit is supervised by an Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) certified educator.

    Completion and certification

Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate of completion, and your CPE units will be registered with ACPE. Graduates who have completed theological education or demonstrated equivalency are eligible for certification with:

    • Association of Professional Chaplains (APC/BCCI)
    • National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC)
    • Neshama: National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC)

    Accreditation information

The CPE Residency and Internship are accredited by Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), the standard in CPE.

Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire is authorized by ACPE to offer Level I and Level II CPE training and undergoes annual evaluations and regular intensive re-accreditation processes.
