    Performance Assessments

The following tests, assessments and analyses are designed for athletes looking to improve their performance in their sport of choice. These tests help us better understand your "current state" and set a baseline upon which you can measure your improvement.

Please note that some of these tests and assessments are fee-for-service. Check with your insurance carrier to see if any of these tests and assessments are eligible for coverage. A prescription or physician order may be required for coverage.

    • Comprehensive Energy Availability Assessment

      What is it?
This assessment is a comprehensive examination into an athlete’s energy availability. This test involves a dietary assessment, training monitoring (heart rate / GPS monitor), body composition assessment and resting metabolic rate determination. This evaluation is completed over a 4-day period of training.

      What is it used for?
Energy Availability is a way to quantify the efficacy of an athlete’s dietary intake to ensure they are consuming sufficient amounts of energy to support their level of training and energy requirements.

      How much does it cost?
This analysis costs $275.00. There may be opportunities to participate in ongoing research projects for this type of analysis which would waive the fee.

    • Lactate Threshold Testing

      What is it?
This test is done during a graded exercise testing (on a cycle ergometer or treadmill) and includes small capillary sampling (fingertip) for the assessment of blood lactate levels. This test takes approximately 30 minutes.

      What is it used for?
Identifying an athlete’s lactate threshold allows for more precise training programming, particularly as it pertains to training intensity.

      How much does it cost?
      This tests costs $75.00

    • Metabolic Testing

      What is it?
A metabolic test is a way to determine your metabolic requirements. This test can be done in a rested state or under exercise conditions. A resting metabolic rate assessment is often done first thing in the morning after an overnight fast. It lasts approximately twenty minutes and requires the patient to lay in a supine position on a clinical table. Conversely, an exercise test can be done at any time while a patient completes a graded exercise test on a cycle ergometer or treadmill.

      What is it used for?
      - Resting: This information allows us to provide a more specific recommendation when determining a person’s daily calorie requirements.
      - Exercise (Aerobic Capacity Test): This test is a way to determine a person’s maximal aerobic capacity (VO2 Max) and is a way for athletes to assess performance adaptations, program specific intensities and determine fuel efficiency patterns.

      How much does it cost?
This test costs $100.00 and comes with an information sheet and post-test consult on how to interpret the information.

    • Nutrition Analysis

      What is it?
A nutrition analysis is a way to assess your typical dietary intake and assesses your total daily calorie and nutrient intake profile. Dr. Jagim educates patients on how to monitor their own dietary intake using a free, commercially available nutritional program: MyFitnessPal.

      What is it used for?
This analysis is used to identify areas that need to be addressed and can be used as a baseline measure for establishing a new dietary plan to help the patient with any body weight, health or performance goals they may have.

      How much does it cost?
This analysis costs $100.00 and is completed over a four day period, culminating in a consult with Dr. Jagim to go over results.

    • Strength Testing

      What is it?
Strength testing can be used to assess upper or lower body maximal strength.

      What is it used for?
This information can be used to provide load recommendations for exercise programming or compare to normative data for percentile rankings.

      How much does it cost?
This assessment costs $75.00 and is completed during a single day of testing lasting approximately 60 minutes.
