American College of Surgeons — National Surgical Quality Improvement Program
The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program praises a select group of hospitals for achieving a commendable composite score in either an "All Cases" category or a category which includes only "High Risk" cases, based on outstanding quality scores in eight areas of surgical care. La Crosse was recognized on the "High Risk" cases list.
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) — Star Rating
La Crosse earned a 5-star rating in 2023. CMS measures the broad categories of mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care.
La Crosse is recognized as a 4-star hospital based on data from patient experience surveys in 2022. Hospitals receive ratings of 1 to 5 stars, with 5-stars being the highest score. HCAHPS star ratings help consumers choose highly rated hospitals in their area.

Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) — Recognition
La Crosse earned recognition as an Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence by IDSA. IDSA recognizes excellence in optimizing antimicrobial use and combating antimicrobial resistance by identifying institutions that effectively demonstrate these activities.
Leapfrog — Hospital Safety Grade
La Crosse earned the best possible grade in Leapfrog Group's Hospital Safety Score in 2023. Hospital safety grades are assigned biannually to 2,600 acute-care hospitals across the nation.

U.S. News & World Report rated Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse as High Performing in heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia.
Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse is the only hospital in the Coulee Region that has both the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Five-Star rating and Leapfrog Grade “A.”
