Emergency Medicine in Albert Lea, Minnesota

The Emergency Department at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea provides emergency care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Referrals and expert consultants, including family medicine, pediatrics, gastroenterology, surgery, orthopedics and obstetrics are available as needed to treat patients. Diagnostic laboratory, radiology/imaging, respiratory care, stroke telemedicine and other critical care services are also available 24 hours a day.

What happens if I need to be hospitalized?

If a patient who comes to the Albert Lea Emergency Department requires hospitalization, he or she will be transferred by ambulance to the Austin campus at no cost to the patient.

If a patient needs more specialized care than what is offered on the Austin campus, he or she will be transferred to another hospital accepting patients for a higher level of care and the patient will be billed for the transfer as would be done today.

If a patient needs a few extra hours of monitoring or to recover (less than 24 hours) after outpatient surgery on the Albert Lea campus or after visiting the Albert Lea Emergency Department, observation beds are available on the Albert Lea campus for this extra monitoring to occur. The goal is to avoid unnecessary transfers and hospitalizations.
