Designed with the comfort of patients and needs of staff in mind, the birth center offers many services and amenities:
Clinic connection
The Obstetrics and Gynecology clinic is connected to the birth center. In the event of an emergency, women can be transported immediately to the hospital, saving valuable time.
Patient rooms
Four private rooms offer a homelike atmosphere that combines the highest level of comfort with advanced obstetrical equipment and technology. You will stay in one room for your entire stay, including during labor, deliver, recovery and after delivery. There is plenty of space for family members who wish to be with you during labor and delivery — or to visit with you after delivery. Convertible couches in rooms are available for support people to spend the night. You can relax in a soothing whirlpool tub and shower during labor — or relax a few minutes after the baby is born.
Level 2 Special Care Nursery
The Special Care Nursery is on-site in Eau Claire. When needed, babies who need a higher level of care can receive it here from highly trained, experienced nurses. Babies born at Mayo Clinic Health System locations in Barron and Menomonie needing Level 2 care are transferred to this nursery for a seamless transition of care.
Family waiting room
The family waiting room is equipped with many comforts of home. It allows family and friends who are not in the room with you during labor a special place to wait for the arrival of the new baby. It also provides a welcome place for dads, children, grandparents and other visitors to sit if you need to take a break or rest.
Security
To provide the safest environment for your new bundle of joy, the birth center is a locked unit. Upon arrival to the unit, visitors should push the button or pick up the phone to be granted access.
Nourishment center
A limited supply of refreshments is kept on hand for times when the kitchen is closed.
Lactation and breastfeeding resources
Lactation counselors are available to provide support and assist with breastfeeding needs during your stay. The lactation counselors are also available on an outpatient basis after you go home.
