Shaughnelene Smith, D.O.

I am a resident in the Mayo Clinic Family Medicine Residency Program in Eau Claire.

I am a dedicated healthcare provider with a deep commitment to rural care and addressing the social determinants of health that impact those in geographical isolation. Originally from South Africa and raised in Canada, I bring a unique perspective to healthcare, shaped by diverse international experiences.

Following my medical school in the United States, I returned to South Africa and spent a year rotating through some of the country’s leading dermatology departments. This experience deepened my expertise in dermatological conditions and their management, particularly concerning various skin types and individuals who are immunocompromised.

In my practice, I integrate my expertise in primary care with a specialized focus on dermatology. I am committed to advancing patient understanding of skin health and the effective management of common skin disorders. My approach is characterized by a focus on improving healthcare access for underserved populations and establishing longitudinal patient relationships, underscoring my holistic methodology.

I am passionate about wildlife photography and conservation. My deep connection to my African heritage and the natural environment fuels my creative pursuits and supports my commitment to conservation efforts.
