When I meet with patients, I first ask what is important to them or what matters most to them today. After listening to their perspectives, questions and concerns, I round out the information by asking important questions that will help build a solid professional review of the situation. I seek to work in a collaborative manner to develop treatment options that align with high professional standards while also addressing the patient's questions and concerns.

I am an experienced psychiatrist who completed residency in 1991 and a specialized fellowship in 1993. I joined Mayo Clinic Health System in Northwest Wisconsin in July, 1994, and have worked in a variety of settings — inpatient, outpatient, community support program, addiction medicine and consult-liaison psychiatry. I now focus on outpatient psychiatry. The quote, "The secret of the care of the patient is in caring for the patient," highlights my belief that medicine is more than applied science but is about connecting with people to build a positive therapeutic relationship which promotes healing and growth.
