A celebration of Mayo Clinic Health System – Albert Lea and Austin
Medical/Surgical Hospitalization Care
All inpatient (hospital) care is available on the Austin campus
Inpatient care (hospitalizations) is available on our Austin campus. The expanded Medical/Surgical Unit includes 37 newly remodeled rooms and two semi-private rooms, with enhanced accommodations that provide a welcoming, healing space for patients and visitors.
The new two-story link that connects the main entrance elevators of the medical center directly to the newly expanded hospital units is now open. This area includes a large waiting room with a fireplace that creates a welcoming and healing environment for both visitors and patients.
What happens if I need to be hospitalized?
If a patient who comes to the Albert Lea Emergency Department requires hospitalization, he or she will continue to be cared for with high quality care locally. The patient will be transferred by ambulance to the Austin campus at no cost to the patient if hospitalization is required. If the patient needs more specialized care than what is offered on the Austin campus, he or she will be transferred to another hospital accepting patients for a higher level of care and the patient will be billed for the transfer as would be done today.
If a patient who has outpatient surgery on the Albert Lea campus or comes to the Albert Lea Emergency Department needs a few extra hours of monitoring or to recover (less than 24 hours), observation beds are available on the Albert Lea campus for this extra monitoring to occur. The goal is to avoid unnecessary transfers and hospitalizations.
Our care teams are here to meet your every need, whether you need hospitalization or extra hours of care.
