Focusing on caregivers in the cancer journey, the 8th annual Lloyd and Ardis Peterson Cancer Symposium drew over 140 people on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019. The event is made possible by the Peterson family and showcases cancer care, close to home.

The symposium comes from the generosity of the Lloyd and Ardis Peterson Family Foundation who wished to honor their parents in the community where they lived and worked while simultaneously recognizing the quality care they received from the medical center in Albert Lea.
The Petersons were born, raised and made Albert Lea their home until they passed away, Lloyd in 1973 and Ardis in 2001. Both believed strongly in being an active part of the community and in giving back, both with their time and money.
In continuing their wish to give back to the community, they established the Lloyd and Ardis Peterson Family Foundation with all grants directed to the Albert Lea area. As both were cancer patients, the Peterson family – Valerie Koens, John Peterson, and Steven Peterson – along with Mayo Clinic Health System – Albert Lea and Austin created the Lloyd and Ardis Peterson Cancer Education Symposium.
