Baggy or droopy eyelids are common as you age. With aging, the tissues around your eyes, including some of the muscles supporting your eyelids, weaken. Normal fat that helps support the eyes can then move into the lower eyelids, causing the lids to appear puffy. Fluid also may accumulate in the space below your eyes, adding to the swelling.
Symptoms of baggy or droopy eyelids can include:
Mild swelling
Saggy or loose skin
A sense that the upper field of vision is being blocked
Vision may be blocked entirely
Tiredness and achiness around the eyes
Besides making you look older, severely sagging skin around your eyes can reduce your side vision, or peripheral, vision, especially the upper and outer parts of your field of vision. Blepharoplasty can reduce or eliminate these vision problems, and make your eyes appear younger and more alert. Learn more about blepharoplasty procedures.
