La Crosse receives high ranking for quality patient care
LA CROSSE, Wis. ― Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse received high rankings for quality patient care in the Bernard A. Birnbaum, M.D., Quality and Accountability Study by Vizient Inc., the nation's leading health care performance improvement company.
Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse was ranked 7 out of 148 complex medical centers in the U.S. The rankings honor superior performance among academic medical centers; large, specialized, complex care medical centers; and community hospitals nationwide for delivering safe, timely, effective, efficient and equitable patient-centered care.
"Our staff is truly remarkable and dedicated to putting the needs of our patients first," says Paul Mueller, M.D., regional vice president for Mayo Clinic Health System in Southwest Wisconsin. "This recognition gives our patients the peace of mind that they are receiving high-quality care."
The rankings are based on a quality and accountability study that helps hospitals enhance patient care. The Institute of Medicine's six areas of care — Safety, Timeliness, Effectiveness, Efficiency, Equity and Patient-centeredness — structure the study criteria.
The study also includes data from Vizient's clinical and core measures databases, the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Healthcare Safety Network.
"We are honored and grateful to be recognized nationally for excellence in patient care across all four of our regions," says Prathibha Varkey, M.B.B.S., M.B.A., president of Mayo Clinic Health System. "Our Mayo Clinic Health System hospitals consistently rank highly in Vizient's national study on quality and accountability due to our staff's extraordinary contributions each day as they care for our patients in communities across the Midwest."
Vizient Inc. was founded in 2015 as the combination of VHA Inc., a national health care network of not-for-profit hospitals; University HealthSystem Consortium, an alliance of the nation's leading academic medical centers; and Novation, the health care contracting company they jointly owned.
