LA CROSSE, Wis. ― The New Mom and Baby group will resume meeting at the Family Birthplace at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. The group will meet Thursdays from 10-11 a.m. Group meetings were canceled in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"During COVID-19, the isolation was so hard for new moms. Even now, so many moms feel isolated at home with a newborn," says Anna M. Anthony, a lactation consultant at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. "Having an opportunity to get out of the house is great for postpartum mental health. Having something to look forward to each week and the mom-to-mom support are also beneficial to new moms."
Sessions are conversational and comfortable for mom and baby. Each discussion starts with introductions with an educational topic. Speakers vary each week. Then moms are invited to share their concerns through a roundtable discussion. The class takes shape based on the moms' needs each week.
"This in-person, drop-in support group is a great way for new moms to meet other local moms, ask questions about lactation and newborn care, and check their baby's weight," adds Anthony.
For more information, new moms can contact the Mayo Clinic Health System lactation team at 608-392-9789 with questions.
