La Crosse named a best hospital by Newsweek
LA CROSSE, Wis. ― Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse has been again named one of the best hospitals in the U.S. according to Newsweek. Meanwhile, Mayo Clinic in Rochester has again been ranked the No. 1 hospital in the world on the Newsweek list of the "World's Best Hospitals."
On the list of the "Best Hospitals in the United States," the La Crosse location was ranked among the top 5%, in the top 250, of hospitals in the U.S. and received an "above average" status for infection prevention measures. Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse is joined on this list by Mayo Clinic Health System locations in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Albert Lea and Austin, Minnesota.

"The Newsweek rankings are based on patient satisfaction survey results, hospital recommendations from peers gathered through an international survey of more than 80,000 health care professionals, and key performance metrics, such as patient safety, hygiene measures and quality of care."
Newsweek shares that the hospitals named in the list stand out for their consistent excellence, including distinguished physicians, top-notch nursing care and state-of-the-art technology.
The Newsweek recognition adds to the growing list of accomplishments Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse staff have received over the past several years, including:
- Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) five-star quality rating. CMS uses inpatient and hospital outpatient quality reporting programs to gather data to tally its star ratings.
- Leapfrog Grade A for safety, an independent national watchdog organization of employers and other purchasers focused on health care safety and quality.
- Healthgrades America's "250 Best Hospitals," which lists Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse in the top 5% in the nation for overall clinical excellence for the current year.
- Newsweek "Best Hospitals in the United States."
