Nurses in Faribault receive DAISY Award

FARIBAULT, Minn. — Mayo Clinic Health System participates in the DAISY Award, an international recognition that honors and celebrates the skillful and compassionate care nurses provide. DAISY stands for Diseases Against the Immune System.

To receive the DAISY Award, nurses who provide extraordinary care are nominated by patients, their families or colleagues. For nurses working at locations across Mayo Clinic Health System in Southeast Minnesota, a selection committee reviews nominations and selects DAISY Award winners quarterly.

    This quarter's recipients are:

    • Abbey Paukert  - A native of Janesville, Minnesota, Paukert was nominated by her colleague, Susan Erickson, for displaying professionalism and sensitively caring for patients in Faribault's Department of Primary Care.
    • Bobbi Horejsi - Hailing from Northfield, Minnesota, Bobbi Horejsi was nominated by her colleague, Tina Rauenhorst, M.D., for her stewardship, compassion and finding innovative solutions to problems that could prevent patients from getting the care they need.

Both nurses were presented the DAISY Awards by Cheristi Cognetta-Rieke, D.N.P., chief nursing officer for Mayo Clinic Health System in Southeast Minnesota, at a surprise presentation.

"Congratulations to Abbey and Bobbi for being named among of our region's first DAISY Award winners," says Cognetta-Rieke. "These women go above and beyond for our patients. They demonstrate the multifaceted talents nurses need to provide world-class care and display incredible heart each and every day they are on the job. They are a tremendous asset to our team and our communities."

The DAISY Award was created in honor of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. The nursing care he received when hospitalized profoundly touched his family. Learn more about the history of the DAISY Award.

If you know extraordinary nurses working at a location across Mayo Clinic Health System in Southeast Minnesota, nominate them for the DAISY Award by completing the nomination form.
