MANKATO, Minn. — Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato’s in-demand Aquatic Physical Therapy is being opened up to the public for blocks of six-week sessions that allow people to learn movements that they can do on their own after the sessions end.
“Each session builds upon the previous week’s session, resulting in improved strength and endurance,” said Elisabeth Wech, Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato physical therapist.
The next block begins Monday, March 4. The sessions will be held 2-2:50 p.m. Mondays, March 4 through April 8, at the VINE Adult Community Center pool, 421 E. Hickory St. The cost for all six sessions is $60.
The water-based exercise class is designed to promote healthy living, weight loss, pain management, and strength and conditioning in a setting that reduces stress on a person’s joints and body. The class begins with easier exercises, and depending upon each individual’s progress, develops to include more challenging core, balance and strengthening exercises.
“I challenge them and provide modifications if they feel like they need them,” said Samantha Hoeldtke, Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato physical therapist. “Everything depends on how participants handle the exercises – always avoiding pain and discomfort. It’s similar to our one-on-one Aquatic Physical Therapy pool treatments.”
Led by a member of Mayo Clinic Health System’s Physical Therapy team, the program provides expertise to kick start a fun, new way to exercise with a goal of helping people become comfortable with an independent program.
The class is limited to six people. No doctor’s referral is required. Registration is required.
