New community member volunteers at gift shop

    Karen Rathbun

Karen Rathbun, a retired teacher and new member of the Eau Claire community, recently started volunteering at the Luther Campus gift shop at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. Karen recently moved to Eau Claire and was looking for a way to get involved in the community.

“I’ve personally experienced Mayo from the patient side, and was impressed with the facility and the doctors,” Karen says. “It made me think it’s a place I like to be because I associate it with higher quality. The gift shop sounded like something I would enjoy.”

Karen communicated with another volunteer at the gift shop and made the decision to get involved. Her roles include fielding phone orders, assist customers and organize shelving.

“The customers I’ve interacted with have been really friendly and pleasant to work with. They’re very appreciative of the help you give them,” says Karen. “The volunteer staff has been wonderful to work with as well. They’ve been very warm and helpful.”
