    Recycling and Waste Reduction

    Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire recycles and reuses many items. Here are some figures from 2017:

    • 6,300 pounds (3.33 tons) of surgical instruments were recycled.
    • 5,760 pounds (2.88 tons) of batteries were recycled.
    • 32,820 pounds (16.4 tons) of waste were diverted from the landfill through the food waste composting program.
    • 14,580 pounds (7.29 tons) of plastic were diverted through our reusable waste container program.
    • 7,460 pounds (3.73 tons) printer toner cartridges were recycled.
    • Wood, metal, cardboard, paper, newsprint, magazines, used oil, wood pallets, plastics, electronics, surgical blue wrap and other materials were recycled.

    Did you know? 

    • By recycling one aluminum can, you'll save enough energy to run a computer for three hours or a TV for two hours.
    • By reducing your paper usage and preventing a single ton of paper waste, you'll save 15 to 17 mature trees.
    • By recycling one glass bottle, you'll save enough energy to operate a 100-watt light bulb for four hours.
