We are temporarily canceling some in-person childbirth education classes and Birth Center tours. This decision is in line with precautions advised by the Centers for Disease Control to limit possible transmission of COVID-19, and to keep our campuses safe for you, our patients and our staff. Our sincere apologies for this temporary inconvenience. Many classes still are available virtually. Registration is required. You will receive a class link via email about one week before class. Childbirth Education classes and parenting resources are offered in Red Wing. Search the Classes & Events section of the Mayo Clinic Health System website for local class dates, conference room locations and costs. Registration is required for most prenatal and postpartum classes. Class sizes are limited. All in-person classes are free.
Baby Cafe group
This resource is for pregnant and breastfeeding moms. It is a great place for mothers to relax, share tips and techniques, address breastfeeding issues, and socialize with other moms experiencing similar situations. One-on-one help from specially trained health professionals is available, including professional lactation support. Call Mayo Clinic Health System at 651-267-5376 with questions. Baby Care class
This class is recommended during the sixth or seventh month of pregnancy. Topics include normal characteristics of the newborn, caring for baby, infant safety, family adjustments to the new baby, car seat safety, physical development and couplet care.

Baby Care & Nutrition class
This Saturday class, recommended during the sixth or seventh month of pregnancy, combines the Baby Care and Nutrition class content. Care topics include normal characteristics of the newborn, caring for baby, infant safety, family adjustments to the new baby, car seat safety, physical development and couplet care. Nutrition topics include infant nutrition, such as feeding in the first year of life, breastfeeding and how the benefits of breastfeeding can impact your baby’s overall health.

This class is recommended to take in your sixth or seventh month of pregnancy. Topics include infant nutrition, such as feeding in the first year of life, breastfeeding, and how the benefits of breastfeeding can affect your baby's overall health.

Beyond Birth class
This class is for after your baby is born. Parents and baby are welcomed back to the classroom for the new challenges of baby care and parenting. Educators and lactation consultants will answer parent questions and review topics such as baby care, growth and development, weight gain, lactation and feeding issues, and facing new challenges. Attend as many classes as desired. Siblings and family members are welcome. Registration is not required.

BirthPlace Tour
Tours of the BirthPlace in Red Wing are included with Labor and Birth and Siblings classes. If you are not attending one of these classes, you may speak with your provider to schedule a visit after your next appointment.

Cesarean Birth class
This class is recommended for all expectant parents so they are prepared for C-section and vaginal delivery. Topics include C-section delivery, expectations and methods to optimize the healing process. There also will be a tour of the operating room where C-section deliveries are performed. Anesthesia staff will be available for questions and discussion.

Childbirth education — offered online
This interactive online education covers essential labor and delivery information through videos and quizzes. Access information when, where and how you prefer.
This class is ideal for families with time constraints, moms on bed rest or those who need a refresher. Get organized with tools, planning checklists and trackers. This class is great for mom and her support person. Preview the course.
Once you purchase the online class, you will receive an email with login instructions. Allow four to six hours to complete the class. You will have access to the class for six months. Grandparents class
This class is designed to teach grandparents current concepts in prenatal and infant care, and how to best support new parents. Topics include changes in baby care and car seats.

Labor and Birth class
This class, available as three evening sessions or one Saturday session, is recommended during the seventh or eighth month of pregnancy. Topics include progression of labor into birth, birth stories, options for pain relief, comfort measures, positioning and medication alternatives. Class includes a tour of the BirthPlace.

Prenatal Breast Milk Collection class
This class is for women after 32 weeks' gestation. Lactation experts will teach about expressing colostrum, which is antibody-rich, immune-boosting milk, before baby arrives. Topics include learning about the benefits to you and your baby, the process for collecting, techniques and resources for hand expression, and storing it until your baby arrives. Siblings class
This class is designed to prepare children ages 2½ to 9 for their new sibling and mom's hospital stay. Children will tour the BirthPlace, see a newborn baby, watch a video and draw pictures for the new baby's hospital crib. Children should bring a doll or teddy bear to class to diaper. While the children watch a brief video, parents will meet with a childbirth educator to discuss the adjustment of siblings to a new baby.

Class cancellationMayo reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet minimum size requirements. Classes that reach maximum capacity will be closed. If there are severe weather warnings in the area, classes will be canceled. If there is inclement weather, cancellations will be announced on KCUE, the local radio station. You can also call Mayo Clinic Health System's switchboard at 651-267-5000 to ask about class. Alternative classes will be offered whenever possible. If class is canceled for non-weather reasons, Mayo Clinic Health System will make every attempt to reach you by phone or email. If you must cancel your registration, you should call at least three business days prior to your class so those on the waitlist can have your spot.
