    Fractures and Trauma

Orthopedic surgeon explaining procedureIf you live in the Barron area and have an accident or injury that causes an orthopedic trauma, it’s critical you receive the highest level of care. As the only Level II Trauma Center in northwest Wisconsin, you'll get optimum trauma patient care in Eau Claire — from injury to rehabilitation.

While not all orthopedic trauma is life-threatening, it is life-altering, making your choice in doctors and a medical facility extremely important. We are here to provide you with treatment for these unplanned, critical events, including major and minor fractures, nerve and tendon injuries, joint dislocation and other orthopedic injuries. Our surgeons provide expert, compassionate care for you and your family in these emergencies, beginning with the newest, least-invasive techniques for highly specialized reconstructive surgeries. And, if needed, we have the ability to partner with our Orthopedics colleagues at Mayo Clinic's Rochester campus to provide the best treatment option for you.

Our orthopedic trauma physicians specialize in complex injuries to bones, joints and soft tissues (muscles, tendons and ligaments) throughout the entire body. Typically, orthopedic specialists will specialize in just one body part or provide general orthopedic care and won’t treat more acute fractures, which are physically more difficult to fix. However, our orthopedic trauma physicians receive training in the field of orthopedic surgery with a special focus on the treatment of fractured bones and joint realignment to promote the safe recovery and return of functionality to your injured body parts.

We treat patients with multiple broken bones, compound fractures and fractures near a joint (hip or knee), including:

    • Acute and subacute fractures
    • Complicated fractures, including hip fractures, joint fractures, multiple extremity fractures and fracture dislocations
    • Nonhealing fractures of extremities, including malunion, delayed union and nonunion
    • Complex orthopedic reconstruction or bone infection (osteomyelitis) cases involving the extremities and pelvis
    • Less-invasive plating techniques featuring percutaneous techniques to insert and anchor plates, which can result in less scarring, faster healing and fewer complications
