Marva Sahs keeps coming back after knee surgeries.
It’s hard to keep Marva down. Marva, 69, of rural Spooner, Wisconsin, completed her 30th American Birkebeiner, a 50-km cross-country ski race held each winter between Cable and Hayward, Wisconsin. This would be impressive under any conditions, but Marva has twice come back from knee surgery to take on the challenge. Duane was planning to fill a bird feeder in his yard one Sunday afternoon. It’s something he does often. But this time, the peaceful pastime took a painful turn. Duane slipped and fell — hard. Once he fell, he couldn’t get up. Fortunately, Duane had his cellphone in his pocket, and used it to call his wife and son for help.
